Students at École Abbey-Landry in New Brunswick are installing a cold room to store their crops from their greenhouses to improve sustainable access to local food year round.

Students at École Abbey-Landry in New Brunswick are hoping to someday grow all of the vegetables used in their cafeteria as part of their plan to have all of the school’s food eventually supplied locally. To build this long term sustainability and local food sovereignty systems, their N:OW for Net-Zero project is installing a cold room so that the crops they grow in their greenhouses can be properly stored and used throughout the winter. They plan to reduce emissions and strengthen their community by having their school be a hub for local food systems.

People Impact:

Abbey-Landry believes no one is too young to help with growing, harvesting, or preparing food, with each of their 250 students helping work on the project at least once a week through a scheduled class rotation.
