Description

Students will investigate smart home technology and specifically evaluate smart thermostats as a practical climate solution that reduces energy consumption and carbon emissions. Through research, case study analysis, and critical reflection, students will understand how smart thermostats work, assess their feasibility in Newfoundland and Labrador homes and communities, and consider the barriers and benefits to adoption. This lesson emphasizes that while smart thermostats are effective, adoption requires addressing cost, knowledge, and diverse home types.
