Peatland Protection

Description

Peatlands are among the most important carbon sinks on Earth, and Canada has 25% of the world's peatlands. Yet most people have never heard of peat. In this lesson, students will discover what peat is and how peatlands store carbon, and explore what peatland protection and rewetting means as a climate solution. Through reading and reflection, students will observe how their perceptions change as they learn, and investigate how their communities could protect these vital ecosystems.
